Kid Lit Critique Day/Revision Coaching -Learn the tools of revision as we critique your manuscript-with Sheri Mabry
Sheri Mabry will be available for a day of one-on-one critique/revision coaching sessions for writers of children’s literature, including fiction and non-fiction, picture books, early readers, and middle grade manuscripts.
Register for a reserved critique slot and receive thoughtful, professional feedback on your manuscript. Together, we’ll look at what is already working, where the piece can grow, and how to strengthen elements that can bring your manuscript to the next level.
But this special critique opportunity is designed not only to help you improve the manuscript we focus on, but also to give you tools you can apply to your writing in general. Words of praise:
"Sheri Mabry is an excellent writing mentor. She wants nothing but one's writing best. Her high expectations inspires a writer to reach inside her craft and dig deep to fid the voice/soul of each piece. Anyone who wants a state of the art coach should definitely choose to work with Sheri." -Joan G. Boyce
"Sheri Mabry helped me untangle a middle-grade manuscript that has been stuck in my computer for decades. By gently pointing out a challenge in my overall plot and helping me shift the arch of my main character, she helped turn my frustration to hope, and I am now eager to revise, something I never thought I’d say. But Sheri didn’t just point out things that needed attention in my manuscript, she also helped come up with ideas about what to do about them, which makes it feel easy. -Eva Apelqvist, the author of a number of children’s and young adult books, and a Printz Honor winning translator. Her middle-grade novel Darkness Over the Skatepark (Mörker över skateparken) won the Swedish Mystery Academy’s prize for best mystery for children and young adults in Sweden.
"Sheri first critiqued a manuscript for me at a SCBWI conference two years ago. She did such a helpful and thorough job that I have been using her service ever since. Both her ideas for me to consider and her questions for me help align my story on the page more closely with the story in my head. In addition to her written critiques I also enjoy and value her phone critiques. My manuscripts are much stronger after working with Sheri." -CT of Wisconsin
"Sheri is the best thing that has happened to my writing career. I have studied picture book writing diligently, attended meetings, critique groups and expensive conferences, yet I probed in the dark. Then I found Willow Words and Sheri. With unexpected warmth and inspiration, Sheri taught me more in one critique letter than I had learned in all my previous study combined. Furthermore, she has demonstrated a sincere interest in my development as a writer and individual. Thanks, Sheri for turning on the lights and taking an interest in my work." -Daniel Welborn, Writer
"I can’t say enough good things about Sheri! Working with her was like having a coach and a teacher all in one. My partner and I both really appreciated her honest yet gentle way of working with our writing and concept. She definitely knows what she’s doing in the writing business. As two novice writers we had all the insecure feelings and fears going into this project. Sheri definitely helped support us and guide us through the process all the way to completion. We now have a beautiful book that we both love and adore thanks to our work with Sheri." -Jocelyn Fitzgerald, LMFT/ART-BC, Co-Author of Colorful Place: Mindful Art & Story for kids.
"Sheri's writing perspective is so valuable because it is borne of intense study of the craft, knowledge of many genres, writing with singular focus, and passion for helping other writers succeed and love the writing process as she does. In her workshops she shares her experience submitting manuscripts for 30+ years-the ups and downs, rejections and reworks and growing through the process. Her peaceful style makes it all seem possible, and it is truly inspiring." -Jen Ziegler, Writer
